Abstract

Management can be defined as the activity of utilizing planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and controlling in order to reach specified objectives. Managers, regardless of gender, must contain specific skills to be effective. Although there are an increasing number of females in management positions, there is still a large disparity between the two genders. Current research often discusses specific differences between male and females’ leaders, yet fails to correctly identify the barriers leading to this inequality. This research paper will first describe the use of a meta-analysis to determine the various barriers that women are facing when opting for management positions. This paper will then analyse these barriers in detail and will conclude with opportunities to overcome these barriers and create equal opportunity for all.
